If you’re in the market for a flat panel display (whether plasma or LCD based), you should check out this article over at PC World which talks about the current state of flat panel technology – especially in plasma displays. What we’re seeing nowadays is LCD displays getting larger and larger and plasma displays getting smaller and smaller.

In fact, several manufacturers at the CEATEC Japan 2005 expo have announced the small high definition plasma television displays ever produced. Smaller physical sizes isn’t the only major development in the world of plasma displays – the # of horizontal lines on average have increased from 768 to 1080. What this ultimately means is that more and more displays will be supporting 1080p HD output – and once you go 1080p folks.. you just can’t go back.

In the LCD world. Sharp has announced a new LCD monitor with a crazy 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. I’d love to see that in person especially since most LCD monitors have contrast ratios in the ranges of 800:1 to 1500:1. Nuts.
