I believe this is the first device that I’ve come across that uses Microsoft’s Media Center Extender software that isn’t actually a PC nor a dumb terminal client to an MCE system. What device am I talking about? It’s the new LG LRM-519 Digital Media Recorder. The LRM-519 is powered by Microsoft’s Windows Media Center Extender software and comes with a built in 160GB hard drive. You can record up to 90 hours of video from your favorite television provider. The unit also supports all sorts of networking features and also sports a dual layer DVD burner allowing you to burn your recorded content. It can even play back MP3 and WMA formats as well as JPEG files. The new unit is on sale for $600 which seems a bit hefty in price considering that you’ll also have to pay for the Microsoft Program Guide service which is NOT FREE for this unit. You’ll need to pony up either a $250 one time fee or $10 dollars per month. Interesting …
