IBM is ready to release its first two 64 bit servers using Intel’s latest dual core XEON CPUs code named Paxville DP. The announcement will coincide with Intel’s launch of the new CPU this coming Monday. The new dual core systems are being designed for the xSeries 346 line of rack servers. The starting price for the dual core XEON system will be $2969 which will be the same as the current single core version of the 346 servers. These systems will begin shipping in mid October and will use the 2.8GHz dual core XEONs. They will also ship with 2GB of DDR II memory with support for up to 16GB of memory.
