Dave over at ZatzNotFunny.com (I love the name!) recently posted up a review of the new Logitech Harmony 520 remote control. You can find the review here. The Harmony 520 was one of the recent new additions to the Logitech Harmony Remote Control lineup - bringing the Harmony to the masses by offering a unit for under a $100 bucks. How does it fare though? Here’s the verdict from Dave:

So is it worth it? If you already own a 6xx Harmony you really have no reason to trade it in. If you’re a virgin, the sleek looks and attractive retail price make this a good bet for those with simple configurations or not requiring many hard buttons. Those with non-technical significant others might also appreciate the powerful, yet disarming 520.

Lexar has come out with a new line of secure Compact Flash cards called the LockTight System which aims at protecting your media content for your eyes only. You set up the CF cards using a software application which can restrict the cameras that have read/write access to the card to specific models. In order for a user to access the data, you need to have Lexar’s software application installed and a username/password. Unfortunately only two digital cameras currently support this format - the Nilon D2X and the D2H. However, expect more manufacturers to join the fray if users adopt this in mass.

Here’s yet another way to connect the Apple iPod to your home stereo and television sets - the DLO HomeDock. With the HomeDock, you can connect the iPod to your stereo system and control the unit via a remote control. You can then also connect the HomeDock to your television set and watch photos from any iPod photo unit.

If at first you don’t succeed…

That seems to be the case for OQO. They’ve gone ahead and released the follow on successor to the Model 01 called the Model 01+. Yeah.. real inventive. The new 01+ has more memory, a larger hard drive, an internal speaker (wow.. who would have thought of that!) and a better digitizer. Other features include:
* 1 GHz processor
* 512MB of RAM
* 14 ounces in weight
* 4.9″ x 3.4″ x 0.9″

How much does all this portability cost? A cool $1899.. and that’s the problem. This device just doesn’t make sense for the average consumer or even business person. It’s best geared towards vertical markets that need a full blown OS like Windows XP in a super small form factor. However, a 1GHz processor running XP just doesn’t cut it folks. OQO still faces the same problem with the 01+ as it did with the 01. How do you market it? If you want something this small, you might as well stay with a PDA of some sort. They’re cheaper and far more functional (and smaller too!). If you really need an XP device, go for a cheaper and slightly larger laptop. Sorry folks.. I just can’t imagine something like the OQO on consumer desktops.

CamcorderInfo reviews the JVC GZ-MG30 Camcorder - another addition to the Everio line of camcorders. The JVC GZ-MG30 Camcorder uses a 30GB internal hard drive to store all the captured video. Other features include:
* 2.5-inch clear LCD monitor, power linked operation
* USB 2.0 high-speed interface
* Three-dimensional noise reduction for clear picture
* 30 GB hard-drive camcorder; high-quality MPEG-2 recording
* F1.8 lens, 680K CCD, 25x optical zoom, 800x digital zoom
Sounds good right? Well it looks like the MG30 just doesn’t live up to the hype. What is the verdict from the folks at CamcorderInfo?

What can I say about a camcorder with so few redeeming features? It doesn’t weigh much. Hey, that’s something! And it records a hell of a lot of video. A lot of really, really bad video.

Who says that just because something is integrated that it can’t also be detachable? Well Languang (a Chinese manufacturer) has come out with the Languang LG-L20B1 - an integrated LCD Television/DVD player/Home Theater combo. The unit comes with a 20″ LCD TV with a 500:1 contrast ratio and PIP functionality. Other amenities include an FM Tuner and integrated DVD player. However, if you feel like expanding outwards, you can detach the integrated speakers and also remove the television screen from the rest of the unit. Pretty cool stuff.
