Toshiba introduces the new RD-XS54 at CEDIA – a versatile DVD recorder that can do almost anything except make you breakfast. The RD-XS54 plays back DVDs (of course), and can record using a variety of DVD media formats. On top of this, it can be networked on an ethernet network, upconvert video to 720p or 1080i, and even be used as a DVR (since it does have an internal 160GB HDD). So what’s the point of having a networked recorder? Well you can have your PC program the player from afar (even record via email!). Very cool stuff though I wish the player looked less like an 80’s VCR and more like something from 2005.
