Sony and Konica are joining forces to develop digital SLR cameras. Digital SLRs have been a missing piece to Sony’s digital camera lineup and thus the joint development makes sense from a Sony standpoint. It also makes sense from a financial viewpoint since SLR cameras generally command a price premium over compact cameras. The new relationship would combine Sony’s expertise in image sensors and battery technologies with Konica’s history in developing SLR cameras and interchangeable lens. The current big players in digital SLRs are Canon and Nikon followed by various other manufacturers.
