Google plans on opening R&D center in China
Google on Tuesday announced that it plans on opening up a research and development office in China. To head up the R&D effort in China, Google hired away Kai-Fu Lee from Microsoft resulting in a lawsuit from Microsoft alleging that Lee breached confidentiality agreements. Lee had been the director of research in China for Microsoft and has a background in speech recognition and artificial intelligence. It’s clear that multi-lingual search will be a big target for Google over the next few years. The battle for search is only beginning.
