The JVC Everio GZ-MC500 has been all the buzz in recent months for being one of the first hard drive based camcorders out on the market. It uses small 4GB Microdrive cards for storage space and can also use an additional SD card. The Associated Press reviews the Everio and finds it a good video camcorder but lacking in it’s still picture taking capabilities. I normally would say “so what?” since we’re talking about a camcorder but JVC bills this device as a 5MP digital camera so one would expect a good quality camera too (especially if you’re paying $1799). Here’s the verdict:
That said, the top-notch 3CCD technology combined with flash memory video storage in this small form should not be overlooked if you’re in the market for something that captures brilliant, vivid video footage.
