Several organizations have asked members of the Senate Appropriations Committee to oppose any inclusion of the Broadcast Flag regulations within an FCC Spending Bill. The broadcast flag was struck down last month by the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit and the FCC has been trying to get the regulations back in through a back door method. With the broadcast flag in place, restrictions will be put into place preventing the ability to share recorded television shows between different systems. For instance – I can not watch any of my HBO shows that I’ve recorded on my Windows MCE box on my Portable Media Center. I’m not distributing the shows to anyone but I would like the freedom to watch the shows at my place of choosing instead of at home. I hope that the broadcast flag will be kept off for good for the majority of us who really just want to be able to watch TV from our bedroom instead of our living room!
