TomTom Go 300
Autoblog reviews the TomTom Go 300 GPS system here. The 300 is the new second generation Tom Tom device which goes for around $620 dollars or so. What’s the final verdict?
In summary, TomTom’s Go 300 is a keeper and a bargain. The small form factor and intuitive menus offer good all-around performance and the price puts this ahead of other touch screen GPS devices such as the Garmin StreetPilot c-series. In fact, it deserves serious consideration against a dealer-installed GPS system, especially if you consider the change you could pocket.

WinBook PowerSpec MCE 410
We mentioned that WinBook was entering the MCE market a few weeks back and PC Mag has a review of it up on their website. Just a refresher, WinBook is now selling the PowerSpec MCE 410 system which comes in a stereo component looking chassis design. Spec wise, the system comes with:
- Pentium 4 processor
- 915 chipset
- 512MB of RAM
- ATI Radeon X300SE graphics controller
- Avermedia M-150 TV Tuner
What’s the final verdict?
The WinBook PowerSpec MCE 410 is an affordable and stylish way to bring PC power and Media Center functionality to your living room. Unfortunately, the lack of a few key high-end components detracts from an otherwise well-rounded Media Center.

UniXpress USB Port Replicator provides VGA over USB
Now here’s an interesting port replicator: UniXpress has released a new USB Port Replicator that can supposedly provide a VGA display feed over the USB bus. This is targeted to users that have machines that do not have a second VGA port. The replicator is supposedly able to handle 1280 x 1024 display resolutions. This is definitely hard to believe.

VIA announces the C7 “Esther” processor
The Esther processor is finally out from Via Technologies. This small low power CPU is designed for thin and light notebooks as well as small form factor PC’s. The processor measures 30 sq. mm and currently runs at a peak speed of 2GHz while only consuming 20 watts. The C7 is NOT pin compatible with the Pentium M processor unfortunately so manufacturers will have to use a different motherboard design should they be interested in using the C7.

Tomy to make phone controlled toys
Tomy has announced the new Putica line of miniature toy cars that can be controlled by a mobile phone. The toys can be controlled either with the included remote control or with the infrared port on a mobile phone. Tomy is supposedly targeting the female high school audience with these toys but the designs would make you think otherwise (perhaps babies?) Somehow, I can’t see the lure of toys being controlled by mobile phones.
