Rumors have been swirling that PalmSource will be porting the Palm OS over to Linux for future versions of the OS. Why bother doing this? Porting to Linux would offer a solid platform for the struggling OS as it competes against Microsoft’s Windows CE platform. With Palm’s expertise in user interfaces, it could paint a pretty face to the solid underpinnings of Linux – similar to how Apple’s OS X painted a wonderful face to a UNIX styled OS. Whatever happens, PalmSource had better move quickly as Microsoft continues to grab market share in the PDA and Smartphone market.
