Sony has announced a sub $2000 Hi-Definition camcorder in the form of the HDV HDR-HC1. This camcorder uses a 3MP CMOS chip to record at 1080i. There’s also 10x optical zoom support, a hybrid focus/zoom ring and a widescreen 2.7inch LCD screen. The HC1 is able to record to standard MiniDV tapes in the new HDV format. It even captures stills at 2.76 MP.
