Akhibara News reviews the lightweight Sony Vaio X505 Carbon notebook. How light is this ultraportable you might ask? It’s 1.72 lbs light. That’s right.. 1.72 lbs. However, don’t expect a speed demon at this weight – this is definitely a featherweight class system. The Sony Vaio X505 Carbon comes with a Pentium M 1.1 GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 20GB HD and only a 10inch screen. Some downsides? Of course there’s no optical drive so you’ll need to carry an external unit if you want to install s/w or watch movies or burn data. However, the notebook also doesn’t have an integrated WiFi chipset. Ugh – that means more money to spend on a Sony product. Oh well – what’s the verdict?
For sure, this PC could have found a spot in my carrying bag to replace my 2kg Z1. If you don’t really need a performance monster and a DVD/CD drive and weight is the only valid criterium for you, do not hesitate and get one of these!
