Toshiba demo’d the Cell processor at the COOL Chips VIII conference in Yokohama from April 20th to the 22nd. The demo was actually shown as a film clip to the audience. During the demo, 48 separate MPEG2 streams were decoded by a Cell processor and projected to a 1920 x 1080 resolution display divided into 8 x 6 cells each with a different video shown. Toshiba used a custom built OS to drive the demo – sounds like a lot of promise.
