There’s some more info on the new 64 bit Windows over at ExtremeTech. The launch of 64 bit Windows will be one of the star attractions at this year’s WinHEC conference. What I did not realize about 64 bit Windows is that one won’t be able to purchase a boxed copy of the OS. Thus no retail upgrades or full versions will be available for purchase. You can purchase them as “white box” copies through OEM vendors or through new system purchases. Weird. I’m not sure why Microsoft wouldn’t actually package Win XP x64 for resale but it’s good to know this.
