The Army is currently researching methods to improve mileage in the vehicles that they use. Why? The Army needs to run as far as possible on one tank of gas and also provide portable power. To that end, the Army demonstrated a hybrid vehicle chassis that could be used as the underpinnings of Humvees, Jeeps, armored vehicles and pickup trucks. The new chassis design includes a small three cylinder diesel engine and two hybrid motors. The results? A $20,000 vehicle that can get 50 miles per gallon. Wow!
