Intel announced that dual core systems will begin shipping on Monday April 18th. This coincides with the 40th anniversary of “Moore’s Law”. AMD will begin shipping their dual core Opteron processors on April 21st. One of the first vendors to ship dual core systems will be Dell with their Dell Precision 380 workstation. The initial dual core processors will be the Intel Pentium Extreme Edition which includes Hyper-Threading support. What this means is that any dual core system with this processor will appear as a four way system to the OS.
