Mikhailtech reviews the AL Tech MediaGate MG-25 Portable Media Center device – Don’t get this confused with a Microsoft Portable Media Center – it just isn’t the same thing folks. What it is however, is a small portable 2.5″ hard drive unit with audio/video interfaces allowing you to view or listen to a variety of files such as music, photos and videos. Inside the MG-25 is a Sigma Designs REALmagic EM8511 Media Processor which does all the dirty work of decoding video streams. The package comes with a remote control and A/V cables for connecting the MG-25 to your home audio/video equipment. It’s not a perfect solution however – the system can’t play certain video file formats and the chassis is just plain boring.. but this is an interesting gadget nevertheless.
