Say goodbye to the days of mail-in rebates. With complaints piling up about rebates not being honored, Best Buy has decided to end all mail-in rebates over the next two years. Circuit City and other vendors are expected to follow suit. It’s not clear whether this will translate into lower prices but it will mean less headaches for consumers. Rebates are often a great way for luring customers into the store to purchase items. Most retailers count on the fact that consumers will forget to fill out the rebate form or send in the form too late or without the proper records. However, the retail firms themselves have been at fault for many unprocessed rebates and that’s translated into mounting consumer complaints. Hence, Friday’s decision by Best Buy to end all mail-in rebates over the next two years. Well.. Black Friday sure won’t be the same anymore once rebates are over with.
