Comdex has been cancelled for the second straight year folks. I don’t think anyone is shedding a tear about this but it does indicate the state of affairs in the technology world. Before 2004, Comdex ran for 25 years straight. Of course, the dot com implosion had a helping hand in making Comdex meaningless these days but there are other tradeshows that are far more interesting too. Alas.. life goes on

I own the DSC-T1 from Sony and for the most part, I love the camera (except under low light conditions). Of course, Sony has to go out and make an even smaller and thinner camera - the Sony CyberShot DSC-T33. The resolution hasn’t really changed but you really don’t need something higher than 5MP on something this small. Makes a wonderful party cam if you ask me. DigitalMagasinet reviews the unit.

PhotographyBlog.com reviews the Fujifilm Finepix F810 digital camera. The specs are impressive: a 6.3MP CCD, a 2.1 inch widescreen color TFT LCD screen, video output socket to connect to a TV, and other goodies. The verdict? PhotographyBlog highly recommends the camera.

Most HDTV sets today support either 720p and/or 1080i resolutions. However, some of the newer sets coming out are offering support for 1080p which of course further complicates things. While there really is no content in 1080p, it’s clear that these new sets will eventually offer even clearer pictures. Check out the PC World article on this.

This belongs to the “What will they think of next” section - Japanese researchers have developed ultra thin solar cell panels that can easily be shaped, colored or applied to fabrics. The picture below shows a demo of what researchers at Gifu University and Gunze Ltd. have done. It’s a solar blouse made with red stars that can power a mobile phone. Check it out at I4U.com

DesignTechnica has an excellent article on the “Other DTV”. With all the talk about HDTV these days, it’s easy to get confused by all the different terminologies thrown at us by cable and dish operators. Check out the article to get a better feel for what exactly Digital Television is.

Looking for the state of the art in Shuttle XPC systems? Check out the Shuttle XPC SB81P - it uses the latest Intel technology in the form of LGA775 support, Intel 915G chipset support and BTX design support for better cooling efficiencies. Is this the perfect system for Media Center PCs? Not quite… although the system is indeed a high end performance system, it comes at a cost of physical size and system noise.

The folks over at TechNeek.co.uk have finally gotten a chance to review the 4GB iPod mini (blue edition). Check out the review here. Plenty of pictures… and the final verdict?

The iPod Mini is a great little player that fits comfortably in your pocket, with long lasting battery life, you’ll always have music on the go. I highly recommend this mp3 player to anyone who wants a small portable player, that doesn’t leave a big hole in your wallet!

Not surprising huh?

WinBeta.org is reporting that Microsoft will announce that Windows XP Professional 64 bit Edition has been released to manufacturing (RTM) tomorrow. Microsoft will also report that Service Pack 1 for Windows Server 2003 will be RTM. This is great news for all AMD Athlon 64 and Opteron users who have been waiting for a 64 bit edition of Windows XP. Of course, early adopters of Intel’s own 64 bit processors will get a chance to try out these new OS too. I’ll be waiting to try this out on my own machine here in the office.
